Event: | Indian Premier League 2009/10 |
Kolkata Knight Riders got a consolation win as they got better of Mumbai Indians by nine wickets. Kolkata registered their first win against Mumbai in the IPL. Kolkata had an outside chance of qualifying for the semis had they batted first, but it did not happen.

Bravo captained in place of Tendulkar and he elected to bat first after he won the toss. The visitors were in trouble straightaway as Bond got rid of the openers in quick time. Saurabh Tiwary took up the mantle of scoring the runs and he did not disappoint his team. Boundaries were scored and Tiwary looked dangerous for the hosts. Duminy (19, 2b, 2x4) never got on top of the bowlers and he was castled by an brilliant in-swinger from Unadkat and the next wicket stole the momentum from Mumbai. Tiwary (46, 37b, 1x6, 4x4) chipped lamely to McCullum of Karthik and the visitors fumbled.
Rayudu (27, 15b, 1x6, 3x4) used the long handle to give Mumbai Indian bowlers something to bowl at. Mumbai Indians at the end of their 20 overs got 133.
Kolkata in reply got off to a brilliant start thanks to openers Ganguly and McCullum. The openers punished the erratic Mumbai Indian bowlers as they found boundaries regularly to keep the supporters happy. Ganguly crossed the boundary ropes twice as the decibel level of the crowd higher. The opening pair put on 97 in 13.5 before Ganguly (42, 36b, 2x6, 4x4) was dismissed.
Brendon McCullum (57 not out, 56b, 4x8) and David Hussey (20 not out, 14b, 1x6, 1x4) then ensured that Kolkata did not make a mess of the target as they go to win with a flurry of boundaries.
