Biography:Liberal MP for Midlothian 1906-10. He was known as Lord Dalmeny as eldest son of 5th Earl of Rosebery, and he succeeded as 6th Earl of Rosebery and second Earl of Midlothian in May 1929. Secretary of State for Scotland 1945; chairman, National Liberal Party 1945-47. Director, Alliance Assurance and other companies; chairman, Scottish Tourist Board 1955-65. Awarded MC 1916, DSO 1918. Appointed KT (knighted) 1947. MCC president 1953-54.
