Scotland failed to take advantage of their glorious opportunities to register a victory over Australia's Select before a crowd of more than 8000 packed into the enclosure at Hamilton Crescent, Glasgow.

So keen was the Scots' fielding, and so accurate their bowling, that the Australian side, which included eight players who have participated in this season's Tests, were dismissed for the mediocre total of 149. Even this, however, proved too great for the Scottish batsmen against the bowling of A.W. Roper and R.C. Williams, who made the ball pop up awkwardly, and the whole side was out for 90 in ninety-five minutes.

Although J.A. Workman played a very sound innings, half the Australian side were out for 76 runs. Then a good stand by R.M. Standard and J. Pettiford added 60 runs to the total. The batsmen at this stage were beginning to get on top, so a double bowling change was tried, which had a sensational effect, R.S. Hodge getting Stanford and D. Cristofani's wickets with successive balls, and in the next over Pettiford followed with the total unaltered, and only 15 runs were added before the whole side were out.

The wicket was deteriorating when Scotland went in, but six of the batsmen succeeded in getting double figures, A. V. Plowright having the distinction of being top score.

Not to disappoint the big attendance, the Australians went in to bat again, and scored 126 runs for the loss of five wickets, F. Jakeman taking three wickets for nineteen runs.

Keith Miller, who was dismissed in the first innings by a yorker from Hodge which scattered his stumps, delighted the crowd with his lusty hitting His first ball from Heggie was hit over the rails, and altogether he hit six 6s, three in succession off Fleming before he was dismissed by Nichol after scoring 69 in thirty-five minutes.
